Journeys from PADS to HOPE Board of Directors Director Description
Mission Statement: to assist individuals and families who are homeless and at risk of becoming homeless, and to study and address the underlying causes of homelessness.
Position: a Director of the Journeys Board of Directors is an individual with a commitment to the community, a desire to be an advocate for individuals and families who are our guests and clients, an ability to understand the needs for and establish the policies of the agency, and a willingness to help secure funding required to carry out the mission.
Directors of the Board are individuals who:
- Have varying backgrounds and skills – personal and professional
- Reflect the diversity of our community
- Are motivated by our mission
- Have demonstrated community involvement
- Are willing to become acquainted with the agency and its services.
Directors of the Board have the following responsibilities:
- Prepare for and attend monthly Board Meetings (two hours)
- Participate actively in a Board Committee (three to five hours)
- Accept Board leadership and supportive roles and assignments as requested
- Establish policies, plan strategically and set current and future priorities
- Review, approve and monitor balanced budget
- Recruit, employ and annually review the Executive Director
- Promote the agency to its various publics
- Provide financial support including personal contributions and assistance with events
- Augment the Development Committee in obtaining supportive funding
- Utilize expertise, common sense and personal skills for the well being of the guests/clients and the organizations the agency serves
The Directors of the Board offer a welcoming and open environment including willingness to meet one on one in the first months of directorship, visits to PADS sites and the HOPE Center to see/experience the work of the agency, and the opportunity to positively address the needs of the homeless families and individuals among us.
