Bob Finds Hope
Bob was partially paralyzed after suffering a stroke last year. Recently separated from his wife and with no place to live, Bob spent most nights sleeping in hallways of abandoned buildings or at motels when he had the funds for a room. Bob stated that after his stroke, he was at a rehabilitation center for awhile and from there moved in with family but that living arrangement didn’t last. To get Bob off of the streets at night, we offered him the PADS program but he said it was too difficult to get to the sites. Bob was not going to survive homelessness much longer. He was in dire need of housing.
Bob and his caseworker started calling housing programs for individuals with disabilities. They soon realized that most of these programs had lengthy waiting lists and Bob needed something immediate. So, they decided to look into health care facilities. Being that Bob had health insurance, it was easy to locate appropriate programs for him. After a week or so of calling different places, Bob found a facility he felt comfortable with.
Bob is now out of homelessness and living at a nursing and rehab center. Bob is receiving therapy to rebuild his strength. As soon as that is accomplished, he’ll be transitioned into a housing program for individuals with disabilities.
