Journeys’ Pathway Program has introduced access to new housing available exclusively for the clients of Journeys from PADS to HOPE.
The Pathways Program affordable housing option provides hope for someone ready to take the next step in moving themselves out of homelessness.
Located in Palatine, a three-unit building houses eight people. This housing is targeted for Journeys clients not served by other programs.
The Idea
There is a shortage of supportive and affordable housing within the northwest suburbs of Cook County. This harsh reality was the driving force behind the creation of the Journeys Pathways Program. The Pathways program continues to search for additional affordable housing options for the Journeys’ client base.
Developed by a focus group of Journeys from PADS to HOPE board members, the Pathways program was created to address “life barriers” associated with homelessness. The idea for Pathways came from Journeys’ board members who wanted to help provide affordable housing to those in need. The Journeys’ Pathway program helps put people on a better path for the future.
Journeys’ clinical staff prepare clients for housing and coordinate support services in order to keep participants housed. Journeys has a strong history, expertise, and success in servicing the homeless population. As Journeys partners with landlords throughout the northwest suburbs of Cook County, it forms the perfect partnerships in order to get help to those who need it.
The Solution
When landlords partner with Journeys from PADS to HOPE, they can house individuals typically not able to afford to live in the northwest suburbs, and thus together with Journeys, will play a role in breaking the cycle of homelessness.
Journeys’ Pathways program provides individuals with the security of an affordable and safe place to live, a chance at a fresh start, and the ability to live on their own. Those involved with the Journeys’ Pathways program also get their utilities and other facility maintenance covered, while the renters are only responsible for their affordable rent and appropriate compliance with the Journeys Pathways program guidelines.
Because Pathways program participants are referred exclusively from Journeys, they qualify and have the ability to benefit from the myriad of free services offered by Journeys’ HOPE Center.
Candidates for Pathways housing must be homeless, screened, and referred by Journeys from PADS to HOPE. Adults must have the capability to meet eligibility requirements.
Candidates must have appropriately addressed and stabilized their life barriers that brought them into homelessness. They must be willing to establish a supportive and consistent therapeutic relationship with Journeys counselors.
Journeys will also assist candidates to ensure support mechanisms are in place as they maintain their household, prepare their own meals, and live on a budget.
